THE ANTIQUARIAN PAPERS - Ipswich, Mass. 1879-1885

The Antiquarian Papers were conceived and first published beginning in
October, 1879 by Augustine Caldwell, noted Ipswich historian. Publication
continued until the last, known, issue in April of 1885.
The "papers" were distributed by mail, by hand, and undoubtedly also
available from
some local merchants. The format was a simple four page monthly newsletter and
carried the staggering subscription price of 25 cents per year.
The "Papers" are a wonderful source of Ipswich history and genealogy
constituting
over two hundred pages of stories, notes, vital records, genealogical data,
house
drawings, etc.
This reprinting of the Antiquarian Papers contains an improved and
corrected index,
replacing a hand typed index which was the only one known to exist.
A copy of the new 19 page index may be viewed at:

IPSWICH VILLAGE and the OLD ROWLEY ROAD
By Thomas Franklin Waters

Ipswich Village though a part of Ipswich, MA was, because of its connection
geographically and socially, connected as much to Rowley as it was to its
parent town. Ipswich Town Clerks made very incomplete entries of Vital
Records which have, fortunately, been preserved in Rowley church records.
Waters in this 1912 publication of the Ipswich Historical Society attempts
to correct this deficiency in some degree, and to give living personal
interest to ancient families, many of whom are considered to be Rowley
families. Long out of print, this facsimile reprint includes a map of
landowners of "the village" and contains a wealth of genealogical data in
its family profiles and property transfers.
Families mentioned: Bradstreet, Denison, Jewett, Mussey, Shatswell, Wilson
Brown, Dudley, Kimball, Norton, Short, Chapman, Dutch, Lord, Paine, Symonds
Cross, Emerson, Lovell, Perkins, Tuttle, Day, Gage, Manning, Scott, West.
