About that time (early 1330), a monk persuaded Edmund that his
half-brother (Edward II, deposed in 1327) was still alive. Edmund then
wrote letters trying to persuade others to help him restore the King.
The new King, Edward III, intercepted the letters, judged them to be
treasonous, and had Edmund executed.
