Point taken.
Any more constructive criticisms are welcome.

It doesn't matter whether you are colonist or not. I am a school biology
and astronomy teacher. I gave up history at school when I was 14 years old
and concentrated in the sciences. I think residents of the 'New World' of
the Americas often have a greater feel for the history of Europe and the
ancient world of Rome and Greece than we do on this side of the pond. We are
surrounded by the stuff to the point where it interferes with planning
applications for roads, buildings and the like. Colchester is a town with a
wonderful roman history, a roman castle and roman walls. It claims to be
England's oldest recorded town and also has a magnificent past concerning
the English Civil War. Most of my students neither know or care of its
history. They are "Thatcher's children". They and their parents that are
thirty-somethings think only of Great Britain inc, or as we would say Great
Britain plc. It is the creation of wealth and the worship of Mammon that is
the only worthwhile pursuit. What I have sent the newsgroup is what has
been passed down through the family for some decades. I am eager to learn
about the mediaeval period (English history or not), but what I know for
certain could be written on a postage stamp!

Keep sending the comments and criticisms. I promise not to flame anyone!!

Best wishes

Richard.
