I wonder if anyone with any first-hand knowledge of the Order would refer to it
as "silly?" I think not. It encourages a scholarly approach to genealogy and
promotes research. It provides funds for educational purposes.

Membership is based upon one's ability to trace a descent from the Holy Roman
Emperor Charlemagne and prove that descent with documentation. This
documentation and the descent are verified on two levels.

It seems very apparent that some are very quick to write off hereditary
societies as anachronistic and elitist. The people who make these judgements
don't bother to investigate the societies nor do they bother to concern
themselves with the genuinely good things they accomplish.
