A good place to start would be the series of articles by Walter Lee
Sheppard in the *New England Historical and Genealogical Register*. Part
One appeared in vol. 119, pp. 94-102 with corrections in vol. 120, p. 230,
and in vol. 121, pp. 232-234. Part Two of the series appeared in vol. 121,
pp. 185-191, and Part Three in vol. 122, p. 265.
These articles cover the known/acknowledged/claimed/spurious/conjectured
bastards of all the English and Scottish sovereigns from the earliest times
to 1714. For illegitimate children of Royals of other countries, or of the
post-1714 British Royals, you'll have to use other sources.
