Mr. Hines has again posted PRIVATE E-MAIL. But he has edited it and changed
some of the contents.

What he didn't say and what I didn't intend to expound on was that two
different people he corresponds/-ed with have told me he wrote them that he
does not study genealogy in earnest (they have saved what you wrote them). So
why post in this group? Attention? If it's ultimately going to make him
look bad, I don't see why he keeps posting this kind of (inflamatory) stuff.
Maybe he just doesn't realize it. It's not my idea of comedy.

He is proud of the fact that he doesn't read journals such as the New England
Historical and Genealogical Register, The American Genealogist, or The
Genealogist. Is that not what you said? (I shouldn't ask for a response
because he will certainly post it rather than e-mail me privately.) The works
he does have are:

Ancestral Roots 7
David Faris's Plantagenet Ancestry
Gary Boyd Roberts' Ancestry of American Presidents
?Gary Boyd Roberts' Ancestors of 500 Immigrants?

That explains what he used for his "own" research, while at the same time
demanding we see the original documents. It is not, your research, Mr. Hines,
it is theirs. And since my own research is included in some of those works,
part of what you're claiming as your research is ironically mine.

He does study history, however, which he seems to know something about. This
might be why he was so critical of genealogists and so lauding of historians
(thinking there was a difference).

He quotes me out of context. I was merely trying to let him know that I was
someone that had some knowledge in the feild who might be competent when I
speak, rather than someone he should attack and dislike, and someone who knew
or was known to the authors he uses and trusts. That is why I also gave him my
name (which he didn't seem to be able to figure out before). If I were trying
to be hateful I could have written anonymously. But then, it is clearly
apparent he is only trying to make me look bad.

The bridges are burnt. I really don't care, but it seems that any time I have
any dealings with this person I feel slimy afterwards and my reputation is
lowered, however I may have acted.

Play by yourself Mr. Hines. I will not feed your need for attention.
As you said to me, "Begone," as if I were some foul evil demon tormenting you.
I am gone. Good-bye.

P. S. I would have thought (and for some reason had naively hoped) that with
your reading skills you would have been able to comprehend just a small part of
the text of FAQ about what is appropriate to post, but I guess your social
skills overpower your intellectual skills. I don't take any joy is pummeling
someone into the ground. I would rather be helpful and that we raise the level
of skill of the whole group.
And it's o. k. if one person's skill level in this field is not as high as
another's. That's the way life is. It's not about egos, it's about getting
answers to our questions. My theory is that if we all help each other, we all
get there faster, and it's more fun in the end.
The world does not revolve around any of us, and people get tired of hearing
how we're persecuted all the time. ; )

Good luck with the rest of your life. It's not something I would like any part
of.

And finally I apologize to everyone for having to read this thread. I will not
contribute to any future post he makes even if he makes something completely up
from sratch and attributes it to me.
