1. L. S. Riceman is quite correct. I've offered to help with this effort.
2. Hines has already filed an initial post on Maud, later Countess of
Perche, one of Henry I's 'natural children' [to use the less pejorative
term]. Gentle readers will find that in my "King Henry I 'Beauclerc' and
His Bastards [I] of 8 Sep 1998.
3. My goal is to construct something more than just a dull recital of
names, B/M/D dates and Mothers' names --- a Laundry List of Bastards L.L.B.,
as it were. I want to do brief sketches, as the facts permit, for each of
these illegitimate children of Henry I 'Beauclerc'. Isn't that more
interesting and indicative of a somewhat greater depth --- a look into the
character of these folks --- [again, where possible] --- beyond just the
4. I think Leo van de Pas calls these "Brief Biographies" --- and he showed
many of his own to us for the Counts of Holland. Leo's terminology sounds
fine to me --- besides he got there first.
4. John P. DuLong has filed a quite credible post, which he entitles "Royal
Bastards Bibliography" --- which lists many of the standard sources on these
matters. All are worth research, retrieval and perusal. Some are worth
buying or copying.
4. Brian Tompsett at University of Hull says Maud, later Countess of
Perche, was born circa 1090. Can anyone confirm, deny or expand on that data
