I think Mardi Carter is on to something concerning a Mauley/ Cave
connection.

Sir Alexander Cave (living 1314) is described as marrying Joan, d. of Peter
de Mauley, Lord of Mulgrave in the Cave-Brown-Cave pedigree found in
Burke's Peerage.

By deduction this Peter de Mauley must be:

Sir PIERS de MAULEY, Kt., of Mulgrave., Born 22 July 1249. M Nichola, d.
of Sir Gilbert de Gant, Kt., of Folkingham, Lincs. (See GANT). Died 8
Sept. 1308. He had issue:Weis, p 137 & Burke's Extinct Peerages, p 362.

Any comments?
