Here are the first 5 generations of the Polish Piast dynasty according
to the most recent fundamental research by the late Kazimierz Jasinski
in his _Rodowod pierwszych Piastow_, Wroclaw [1992]. I have used Polish
spellings for all names (also foreign) but without diacritics. Otherwise
I tried to use English conventions, except for *=born and +=died.

Some notes:
a. The dynasty was not called the Piasts until the 17th c. They were
just "the Polish dynasty". The rulers were/are usually called
"Polish dukes" rather than "dukes of Poland" - but that seems
hardly important so I am not using this form here.
b. The name comes from Piast the wheelmaker, made the father of Siemowit
by the earliest Polish chronicle. It is clear, however, that he is
a ficticious person, part of the dynastic legend. The names starting
with Siemowit are now believed to be genuine ancestors of Mieszko.
c. Mieszko is the first ruler known from contemporary sources. In one
of these he appears to be named "Dago" or "Dagon". Some think it was
his baptismal name, others see it as a corruption of a Latin phrase.
The document in question, known as "Dagome iudex", is known only from
an 18th c. abstract, which itself does not survive now.
d. The controversial filiation of Sigrida Storrada (the Proud) was discussed
here at great length some 2 years ago (?).
e. In his recent monograph of Pomeranian dukes (_Rodowod ksiazat pomorskich_,
vol. 1-2, Szczecin 1995), Edward Rymar argued convincingly that the
dynasties of both Western (Szczecin/Stettin) Pomerania and Eastern
(Gdansk/Danzig) Pomerania, as well as the Lis (Foxes) clan of knighthood,
were descendants of Swietopelk, son of Mieszko. He does not agree with
Jasinski concerning his death in childhood. This hypothesis is not new
(was put forward in the early 20th c.) but was rejected by earlier
consensus.
f. "Mieczyslaw" is the 19th c. linguistic reconstruction now believed wrong.
