Just for curiosity, who was this rabbi? Let me tell you why. My mother's preceptor was Brazil's most outstanding Jewish scholar in the first half of the century, Dr. David José Perez. As he was married to a Catholic lady he could never become a rabbi, and I well recall that once he mentioned the enormous import of the marriage rule.

PS: My mother wasn't Jewish. My grandfather was an agnostic and wanted to give their children the best education possible. At that time children weren't required to go to school; they could study at home and submit to official exams at the end of the year.
