Wm. Salt Society Collections for a History of Staffordshire would be a
beginnin. But even before that, I would consult Whitmore and Marshall
for the surname of Basset. For more on these references see the
archives. These references will give you plenty of material to work on.
I would also go to the Hyde Park FHC and order the Gorge Morris
Collection. The first film has the index. There is a rather extensive
article covering all the Basset branches. If you can give me your
connection to this family perhaps I can post what i have.
There is enough material that you shouldn't have to go to Kew for a long
time.
