The English seem to have gone softer since Wallace's time. Contrast the
reaction of the cantankerous Marquess of Queensberry exasperated at his son
Bosie's affair with Oscar Wilde (Wilde, 1996), with the business-like
reaction of Longshanks at Piers' boasting his knowledge in the art of war.
