In the discussion of Faris and his decision to restrict his book to
those immigrants with legitimate descents from Plantagenet kings, it has
been regretted that many immigrants with perfectly good descents through
bastards are thus left out.
It occurs to me that there is a nearly instant remedy for this. The
Royal Bastards, an ancestor group restricted to those who can prove
illegitimate descent from a British Monarch, has been in existence for
many years now. Each person joining has had to produce a well vetted
descent. I have seen a carbon copy of many of these descents in the
library of the NYGBS in a binder. Since carbon paper disappeared (thank
heavens) thirty odd years ago, there would be, I guess, many more today.
Gather these together, type them into a word processor, design the book,
produce camera-ready copy, contact a genealogical publisher,
and--Presto!--a book on the immigrants to American colonies with
illegitimate descents from British monarchs.
Copyright problems might make this impossible, I suppose, but it's a
thought perhaps looking into.
