I have put together the following de Montmorency pedigree, much of this
comes from past messages to the ng, some from the un-sourced work of Leslie
Howard <http://www.worldroots.com/ged/pomer>;, from Encyclopedia Britannica,
and from sundry other sources. I don't give any guaranties as to its
accuracy, but would appreciate opinions, additions, corrections etc. The
first few generations are the most problematic.

witness to the charter of Thorney Abbey]; uncle to
Strongbow; held vast expanses of land; In c1179 became a
Cistercian at Christchurch, Canterbury after he had endowed
the monks of Bildewas, Shropshire which had an extensive
tract of land in Ir, on which was founded the Abbey of St
Mary of Refuge in Dunbrody, co Wexford. The grant to
Dunbrody (c1182, the original being lost) by Hervey
consisted of about 30 townlands, which had been granted to
him by STRONGBOW; It is said that HERVEY retired to
Dunbrody, became its Abbot and was bur there, however the
MORRES family of Kilkenny may have `manufactured' this
evidence; He (with MAURICE PRENDERGAST and ROBERT
FITZSTEPHEN) landed at Baginbun, Bannow Bay, S Wexford on 1
May 1169; He dsp and left the remainder of his large estate
to his brother GEOFFREY
