The genealogy of both branches of Goths was already covered in this
discussion, but so far little was said about Vandals. So I want to
jump into discussion and offer my materials on Vandal genealogy. It
is based mainly on Procopius and Jordanes. For early generations my
source was the book "The Decline and Fall of Western Roman Empire
and Emergence of Barbarian Kingdoms" by A.R.Korsunsky and R.Guenther.
All spelling errors are mine.
Godegizel(d.405),King of the Vandals, was killed in battle against
Franks near Rhine. He was the father of:
1.Gunderic(d.428),King of the Vandals 405-428, succeeded his father
and led Vandals into Gaul and then Spain. He was succeeded by his
half-brother
2.Gaiseric(d.24.1.477),King of the Vandals 428-477, established the
Vandal state in North Africa, famous for his sack of Rome in 455.
Father of:
2.1.Huneric(d.22.12.484),King of the Vandals 477-484; m.1st a daughter
of king Theodorid I of the Visigoths; m.2nd Eudokia, daughter of Roman
emperor Valentinian III. By 2nd marriage he had:
2.1.1.Ilderich(d.533),King of the Vandals 523-530, deposed and later
murdered in prison. Procopius mentioned briefly his children, but
without any further detail.
Huneric was probably also father of
2.1.2.Unknown (at least for me), father of
2.1.2.1.Oamer(d.530/533) and
2.1.2.2.Evagey(d.533). They are described by Procopius as brothers
and nephews of Ilderich. Evagey was murdered with his uncle, and
Oamer, who was blinded after the coup of 530, died before that.
Second son of Gaiseric was:
2.2.Genzon(d.betw.468/477). He mentione in description of the great
Vandal victory over Roman expedition in 468, but died before Gaiseric.
Father of:
2.2.1.Gunthamund(d.496),King of the Vandals 484-496
2.2.2.Thrasamund(d.6.523),King of the Vandals 496-523; m.1st NN;
m.2nd ca.500 Amalafrida(d.aft.523), sister of King Theodoric of
the Ostrogoths
2.2.3.Gailaris, father of:
2.2.3.1.Gelimer(d.aft.534),King of the Vandals 530-533,
surrendered
to Belisarius in March 534 and settled in Galatia.
2.2.3.2.Cason(d.12.533), killed in battle of Tricameron.
2.2.3.3.Ammata(d.13.9.533), killed in battle at Decimum near
Carthage.
2.2.3.4.Unknown, father of:
2.2.3.x.1.Gibamund(d.13.9.533), described by Procopius as nephew
of Gelimer, killed in battle at Decimum near Carthage.
Younger son of Gaiseric was:
2.3.Feodor, dsp.
