In response to exclamations of wonder here as to how Roger de
Mortimer, 1st E of March, managed (along with getting drawn and
quartered) to have so many children, I think it not a bad idea to
point out that he didn't. As Leo suggests in inviting adds. &
corrs., at least 2 other Roger de Mortimers were the fathers of
children listed above. E.g. Roger who d. 1214 (fa. of 7, Joan who m.
James de Audley) and Roger who d. 1282 (fa. of 1, Edmund who m.
Elizabeth de Badlesmere). There having been 3 dozen responses so far
to <ERandolph1>'s original query as to who Roger's children were, all
appearing to discuss instead what it's like to be drawn and quartered
(or, so far as I can gather, whether there might be a pub suitable
for the occasion), I apologize if this one seems OT. (Leo, can you
forgive us? By the way, do you feel like checking your CP refs? In
the States at the moment, I'm away from my notes but think the
relevant Joan passage is probably around IX, 273, and the Edmund one
around IX, 280-81.)
