""and there we have it folks. a private off line message posted
publicly. hines has no sense of netiquette. and when thumped requires
the need to go to the people to gain support. a typical whimpering
bully maneuver. a stronger personality would have just deleted the
message and carried on..but not our hines.
I chose a private posting rather than disturb the list..not because i
was worried about saying something in private vs public forum.""
Oh Dear!
I know [I think] that DSH does not believe in the spontaneous
self-redemption of flawed, crooked-timber humanity, and neither do I.
But if the above is true, here is the chance to get off to a good start
at least for 2001.
Public repentance has its merits.
As an example, I hereby repent for quoting to the list, without prior
checking for permission [late last millennium], a private communication
to me, albeit on a list topic, and without very personal content.
It was careless of me, and I am fortunate that my correspondent was
very forgiving.
On such hangs the health of our excellent list [DSH included].
Let us hope DSH gets us off to a good start this Millennium,
and is met with similar gracious forgiveness in return.
[Mind you, the apparently private letter he quoted is not filled
with the milk of human kindness either.]
"The quality of Mercy is not strained , but droppeth as the gentle rain"
etc
Human nature itself is unfortunately irredeemable, but fortunately
individuals aren't.
Even though the Middle East boils on in encroaching darkness,
we can each do our little bit to lighten this tiny corner where we are.
How about it, gentles all.
