Well, FitzGerald and Davis are patronymic, meaning "son of
Gerald" and "son of David". Thus those with these names do not
represent a unique family, but an unrelated group of peoples all
descended from ancestors named Gerald, or David. Thus you need
to be more precise in refering to the family you are interested
in.
