Dear Mr Reed:

Thank you for that precision; actually, I read Edw on the original, but I can see where it might look like a dro to someone not used to old english... although I think you are something of an expert and must be used to old english... so let's just say you read it differently... it was pretty hard to read, don't you agree? except the one phrase about nepotis ex matre, which was quite clear...

I will try to get to the site given below as soon as possible, but I'd like to finish the article, figure out how to open some files that suddenly started opening onto a window spawner endlessly, rather than posting the page, and get up off my derrière and get some fresh air, not to mention sleep, once in a while...

With all due respect, from the time this starts turning into a leo style dump on her fest, rather than answering the new points, as Ken has at least taken the time to do...the whole thing starts looking like a waste of time to me, and I figure let each believe what they will... although Ken's additional information does shore up my arguments, as I hope mine did for his...

Thank you for your input and civility... such has been almighty rare for a while...

"Edro~" was an exact representation of the abbreviation as it appears in the
original.
As what I quoted was in quotes, I tried to make it as genuine to the original
as possible.

I did not say that Elizabeth Tomlinson had no brothers, but that she had no
known brothers. Also, no surviving male Tomlinsons (aside from the man we
believe was her father) show up in those registers, and I've also searched
probate records. So the only factual evidence we have is that she had
sisters. The grant of the administration would seem to bear this out, i.e.,
it was granted to her sister's son.

As to Dud Dudley, go to:

http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=GEN-MEDIEVAL

enter (Dud and Dudley)

in the search field, click on 1999, and read the posts I made about him and
his affairs.

I have already produced ( anumber of times) legal text which states that any
illegitimacy excludes inheritance. For instance, see Frederick Pollock and
Frederic William Maitland, History of English Law, 2:396-8. I've already had
EXTENSIVE discussions about this with Ken, and he's forgotten the details.

Again, I would admonish you to check the archives at the web address I've
supplied above.

Paul
