Peter,

Her date of death at being in Messines, 8 Jan 1079, I got from
Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists, Weis/Faris, line
128.22.

Ancestral Roots calls her "Adele (Aelis) of France, Countess of
Contenance."

That I have her as cometesse d' Auxerre comes from Antoine de
Nadaillac's website who has the following for King Robert II of
France:

II. Robert II "Le Pieux", "Le Sage" (° Orléans, 27.03.972-Melun,
1. Adélaïde (° v. 1003-Messine, 8.01.1079), comtesse d'Auxerre ép. v.
1015, Renaud Ier (+ 1040), comte de Nevers.
2. Hugues (° 1007-17.09.1025, inhumé à Saint-Cornellier), associé au
trône en 1017.
3. Henri Ier (+ 1060), roi de France, qui suit.
4. Adelle (° 1009-Messine, 8.01.1079), comtesse d'Auxerre ép. 1°.
1027, Richard III (+ 1027), duc de Normandie; 2°. 1028, Baudoin V (°
1012-1067), comte de Flandres.
5. Robert Ier "Sans Terre" ou "Le Vieux" (° v. 1011-1076), duc de
Bourgogne. (Cf. Chapitre IX : La Première Maison Capétienne de
Bourgogne).
6. Eudes (° 1013-ap. 1055), retardé mentalement, cité en 1056.

It appears he styles both Adelaide and Adele as comtesses d'Auxerre.
His data looks fairly "full" and I trusted it.

So, it seems I should revise Adelle and style her comtesse de
Contenance that Ancestral Roots gives her, and as noted by bill
kullman.

...dumb question, did both sisters die the same day? Velde says that
Adelaide, wife of Renaud de Nevers, died after 1063. (Looks like ONE
typo at least.)

Velde (Heratlas) too says Adelle was the widow of Richard III of
Normandy before marrying Baldwin V of Flanders.

The birthdate 1015-1017 I took from a message from this newsgroup,
posted by TAF, Re: Alice of Normandy, who noted "Information in this
message per Thierry Stasser who wrote an article on Matilda, a
previously overlooked daughter of Richard II of Normandy." 2001-03-25
22:05:48 PST

Nadillac gives her 1009. Which would make her a more marriageable age
to Richard. Age 10-11 seems really young, even for a viking like
Richard.

So, I'll stick with Nadillac's 1009 for Adella, revise Adelaides death
to be after 1063 (albeit, the same day as her sister, *is* after
1062), and ignore TAF's Stasser info.
