Hello,

Although its far from being an authoritative source, William
Buchanan of Auchmar's "Inquiry Into the Genealogy and Present State of
Ancient Scottish Surnames with the Origin and Descent of the Highland
Clans and Family of Buchanan" (1723) gives a descent from Robert II for
this line but omits any mention of a daughter Janet who m. Thomas of
Carbeth.
Here is the line. The numbers next to individuals refer to the page
numbers in the book.

[1. Robert II, King of Scotland]
[2. Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany]
[3. Murdoch Stewart, Duke of Albany]
4. Isobel Stewart = Sir Walter Buchanan, 13th Laird of Buchanan (171-2)
5. Thomas Buchanan of Carbeth (235)
6. John Buchanan of Easter Ballat (235)
7. Thomas Buchanan of Carbeth = dau. of Buchanan of That Ilk (236)
[The book doesn't specify which Buchanan of That Ilk and in the section
on the Chiefs there is no mention of this daughter' probably due to an
oversight on the author's part.]
8. John Buchanan of Gartincaber (239)
9. George Buchanan of Gartincaber (239)
10. John Buchanan of Blairluisk (239)
11. George Buchanan. Apparently living in 1723. (239)

I hope this helps some. I descend from Annabella Buchanan, dau. of the
14th Laird of That Ilk who m. James Stewart of Baldorran and from whom
the Stewart of Ledcreich trace their descent.

Sincerely,
Kelsey J. Williams
