Interestingly, the Vandal princess is real, though the odds she
married a Scandinavian are EXTREMELY small.
When Justinian's generals wiped out the Vandal kingdom in Africa,
they rescued one or more princesses, daughter(s) of Hilderic, and
brought them back to Constantinople, since they were descendents of
Theodoric the Great. What became of them afterwards is not stated in
my Byzantine history books.
The Vandals, at this time, were Christian. No Scandinavians were
yet Christian. The Byzantines would not have married a rescued
Christian princess to a distant pagan ruler! My guess is, the
princess(es) were forced to become nuns, since, otherwise, their
children would become a threat to the current dynasty.
