Rosie Bevan called to my attention that in a posting of 3 May
Douglas Richardson said that the alleged Odingsells-
marriage was based on the following authority:

"W.Dugdale, Monasticon Anglicanum, 6 Pt. 1 (rev. ed. 1830): 501
(Longespee pedigree in Lacock Priory records: "Elam [Fitz Walter],
quam duxit primo Guillielmus de Dodingseles.)"

To judge the persuasiveness of this, one would need to have some
idea when the pedigree was written, and to know who added the
[FitzWalter] -- Dugdale, Richardson, or some one else? One would
then have to inquire whether, even if Ela was a FitzWalter, she
was necessarily the daughter of Sir Walter Fitz Robert or whether
some other Walter might have been her father.
