Don't know, I suppose he could have been the Nicholas Browne who was sick in
Lewes in 1571, but then I expect there were other Nicholas Brownes around
here, and I doubt the West Hothly Nicholas would have had to depend on the
parish poor relief.

The Accompt of abouenamed John Erle & John Homewood constables made & yelded
vpp to the fellowship of the said burrough the fyrst daye of october yn the
xiijth yeere of ....... Elizabeth ........ [as in fol 9.] [ac: preamble about

The said constables are charged with -- ixs xd by them recevd of Thomas
Mathewe & Willm Lane the last constables as appereth vppn the foute of their
accompt. And with -- vijs vjd of serteyn churches geven of benevolence
towardes the releefe of _Nycholas Browne_ in his sycknes, And also with vs
the price one sadle sold, And also with --viijli xiijs vd assessed vppon the
ynhabitantes of the said burrough at twoo severall assessmentes & by the said
constables receved at the handes of the hedborowes, yn the hole to lxli xvs
ixd.
