I guess this John de Monem is the same John de Monem[ue] who appears in
Eynsham Cartulary [1] and the Jo de Monemue mentioned by Pym Yeatman in
connection with Salisbury Castle. [2] Perhaps he is the John (-1248) son of
Gilbert de Monemue (Monmouth) (d 1190) who was son of Baderon de Moneume by
Roesia de Clare (DD p 591)

[The abbot pays a fine to recover his woods that had been wasted.]
[c. 1230] I. de Monem[ue], iustic[iarius] foreste, dilecto sibi Thoma de
Langel' salutem. Mandatum domini regis suscepi in hec uerba: 'H. dei; gracia,

forestarios, & inrotulari facias in rotulis uiridariorum, in quo statu bosci
illi fuerint, & tempus quando uisum factum fuerit, & postea permittas eidem
abbati habere custodiam de boscis suis secundum formam mandati domini regis.

[2] _The Brownes of Bechworth Castle_, by John Pym Yeatman 1903 page 198:
The following extracts from the Red Book of the Exchequer are in point:-
...
1201-2 - Warwick and Leicester.
Robert de Turville, half Knights fee. Wm. fil Alan, one. William de Breosa,
four and half fees of Adam de Port. Walter Waleran, thirty Kts., of which Jo
de Monemue had one-third part with one daughter, Albreda de Boteril another
daughter, and William de Novilla the third: of these, five Knights were owed
for custody of Salisbury Castle. Walter Waleran fined 20 m. that he might be
quit of five Knights, except for the keeping the said Castle.
[ac: I suppose this means Jo de Monemue's wife, Albreda de Boteril and
William de Novilla's wife were three daughters of Walter Waleran?]
