The cartulary of St. Denys Priory, (Southampton) has a number of
entries regarding John Biset (grandson of Manasser Bisset) and family.
The note under entry 392 reads: "Margarey de Ripariis (Rivers)
early-thirteenth century, d. 1252, daughter of John Biset and wife of
Richard Ripariis (of Ongar. Essex). John Biset was grandson of Manasser
Biset, steward of Henry II, and succeeded his brother William in the
barony (of 'Westlangemor' at 'Samelhurst') with estates in Hants.
(including Shamblehurst), Worcs. and Glos.; d. 1241 leaving co-heirs
Margery, Ela, and Isabella. Richard de Ripariis d. 1243. The Bisets
were benefactors of Maiden Bradley Priory, Wilts., of God's House,
Southampton, and Beaulieu Abbey." This from entry 392 in vol. 2 of "The
