Richard, if that is your only concern, then rest assured that the scans are of
exceptional quality. I have read and printed much of the Seytoun book they
have up already, and I have no complaint with the text. The engravings in the
book come out a little darker than I would prefer, and occassionally a page
will print in landscape, but this may be just a quark of the Adobe 6 reader
I'm using. This is easily rectified by paying attention to the page layout
before printing, and changing the setting is necessary.

PDF is perfect for textual documents, but is less desirable for manuscricts. I
found this out the hard way, when I ordered several wills from the PRO's
Documents Online. When magnifying the MS, the script pixelates so much that it
nullifies the benefit of magnification. So when it comes to manuscripts, a
high resolution .jpg would be more desirable. One of the Wills I acquired in
PDF was so bad, 2 1/2 of the six pages were completely illegible, and I had to
write the PRO and lodge a complaint. I was tactful, and I cohersed them into
re-scanning the document for me, and I am looking forward to the results. They
explained that the process would take aproximately 25 days; so they must be
half finished by now. The document is highly important to me - it being the
Will of Sir James Grant of Castle Grant, apparently proved in 1833, but from
what I could read of the MS - it was written in 1811.

Best Wishes,
Phil
