not ty to summarise here but you should try to read Nicholas Furlong:
"Dermot, King of Leinster and the Foreigners", Tralee, 1973; and also
the first chapters of J F Lydon: "The Lordship of Ireland in the
Middle Ages", Dublin, 1972.
