Hi Will,

Thanks for your thoughts. Two given names like that often raises a
flag that two people may be confused. I have found that sort of
problem even in more "modern" family groups.

Finding original sources from that era must be very difficult. My
wife's Danish family included at least one state archivist. He and
some of his friends/colleagues spent some time looking for hard
evidence of my wife's (direct father-father-father, etc.)
9g-grandfather in the archives of Flensborg, but only came up with
good circumstantial evidence. Sometimes the definitive records don't
exist (and this example is "only" the early 16th century)
