In the quote found by Will is the remark about "smudging" dates. What is meant by that?

"Fabpedigree" I found by googling "Emir of Azerbaijan", which gave a list of ancestors for Omar. The list itself gives very few dates, but at the top of the pages dates are more detailed.

I went to Tamerlane's page and he was born 10 April 1336 and died 17 February 1405

his son Miran Shah Khan (Emir) of Transoxane, is shown as born about 1366 and died after 1409

his son Omar is only shown as died about 1433. The dates look acceptable enough BUT each person's page shows names of children, but on Miran Shah's page they are omitted and we are told His (poss.) 2-greatgrandchildren and so on. This immediately makes me apprehensive about ancestors of Omar.

But is from Omar downwards reliable?

This is an attempt to link to Tamarlane.

We can make it fit by smudging the dates even more, but at some point we have to say, "What is the source for declaring that the wife of Golemo Araniti was of royal blood?" Let alone of Azerbaijan.

The only contemporary source I see just states that Stephen went to Albania and married a daughter of Golemo Araniti.
That's all.
