Subject: CLAPP

Hi all! Looking for the following connection:

In the 1880 census for NB I found the following: CLAPP, Stewart b.1852,
IL married to Clarissa J. (?) b. 1859 Iowa his parents both from IL, her
father from IN, mother from OH. Children: Tilden b. 1877 NB, Harry b.
1879 NB, Carlotta (Sharlotte ?) b. 1880 NB. Also listed was Andrew J.
Clapp brother b. 1861 MO with both parents listed as being from IL.

In trying to find Stewart's parents the closest I can come up with is
the following: In the 1860 census for MO I found a Stewart Clapp listed
as a child of the right age and with parents both from IL. They were
Daniel CLAPP b. 1831 IL and Hetty Ann Clapp b. 1833 IL, with children
Stewart b. 1852 IL, Samuel b. 1855 IL, Joseph H. b. 1858 IL, and
Benjamin F. b. 1859 MO.

In the 1880 census for NB I found Daniel CLAPP and Hetty Ann with the
following children: Samuel S. b. 1855 IL, Joseph b. 1858 MO, Daniel B.
b. 1863 IL, Calhoun S. b. 1865 IL, Augusta b. 1870, NB, and Armitta b.
1872 NB.

My question is this. Is it unrealistic to make a "leap" and assume that
the parents of Stewart Clapp are Daniel and Hetty Ann based on the
above information? The problem is not being able to find Andrew J. tied
directly as a son of Daniel. I tried looking in the 1870 census for NB
and MO and could not find a Daniel Clapp so my best hope of a link isn't
there. Any suggestions from folks? I also know that Daniel Clapp
married Hetty Ann Munnell in Coles Co, IL on Oct 28, 1851. I apologize
for such a long, drawn-out message but I wanted to provide as many
pieces of the puzzle as possible. Thanks for your patience! Steve
email:

The problem I'm having with getting a firm link to Stewart Clapp to
Daniel Clapp is as follows: In the 1880 census for NB I found Stewart
Clapp and his family as shown above

Hi,
I am really having a hard time finding the MARRIAGE DATE of the couple below:
Guess states to check out would be Texas, Ohio and Michigan.

The man's name is a bit confusing, because he had so many:

Birth name: Gavino de Jesus Garza b. 23 December 1892 in Victoria, TX
Baptism name: Gavino de Jesus Cano
Name he took later: Joseph Benjamin Snaiar

Married: Date ??

Harriet Loretta Menzer b. 20 January 1892 in Flint, MI

I do have an Informal Information Reply dated 25 April 1972 stating:
In 1925 a bonus claim was filed. Joseph Benjamin Snaiar was shown as married
to Harriet. Address at this time 2248 Van Dike Ave. Detroit, Mich.

Do you need any other info to find the date? Please e-mail if you do.

Thanks in advance,

Newbies,
Here are my a-b-c surnames. Well C-names anyway. A little info. First my
Grandfather William Edgar was born in a little town called Promise OR.
Here is some history I found on Promise from the pages of the Enterprise OR
phone book.

"Promise- 1891
Empties into the Wallowa River. It was named by John Phillips and Dan Mann
when they camped in this district in the spring of 1890. Phillips jokingly
remarked that this was the Promised land that Moses never got to. He
settled here in 1891, and named his first daughter Promise. During the
first twelve years that he lived here, he killed 89 deer and 14 bear."
My Mom always thought her dad was born in Promise Land until I showed here
on the map that it was just Promise and not Promise Land.
It just goes to show you, you never know where you might find a bit of
family history.

Hi, all-

My ABC's...

BAKER - My Great-Grandmother was Martha Ann Baker, who married John Fremont
Teeter. Martha was born 26 Dec 1855 in Wabash Twp. Adams Co. IN. She died
in Adams Co. on 14 Jun 1901. She married John Teeter on 19 Aug 1880.

Martha's parents were Jacob Baker, born in PA, and Hanna Conkle, born in
Ohio. Hanna died in Adams Co. IN on 9 Nov 1863

I have no other info on this Baker family except there may have been a son
named George. Sure would like to know more about them.

BEHYMER (B'HIMER; BECKELHYMER; BECHTELHIMER; PICKELHIMER, and other variations:
My GGG-Grandfather was Solomon BEHYMER, b.21 Oct 1782 in Virginia. He
married Mary (Polly) WEBB on 2 Feb 1804 in Franklin Co. VA. He died 8 Dec
1858 in Clermont Co. Ohio. Mary was born in Virginia in 1878 and died 20
Sep 1870, possibly in Clermont Co. Ohio. Their son William, b. 5 Apr 1822,
was my GG-Grandfather.

Solomon's name, we think, was originally Bechtelhymer. He was listed in the
1810 census as Pickelhimer. He was listed in the 1830 census as B'Hymer.

He moved from VA to Lincoln Co. KY ca 1811-1822, then to Clermont Co. Ohio
(near Batavia) ca 1824.

The question is, who was Solomon's father? Some records seem to indicate
Jonathan, others state Johannes or John. There are several "John" BEHYMERs
who may have been the father of Solomon.

I think the clue to how worthwhile this book could be is in the title "1001
Names" with NAMES being the important word.
You can get that many names from a phone-book CD-ROM or from a Census CD-ROM,
but they would not be part of your family history. You may be lucky enough
to find that someone in your family has entered 1001 names of relatives into
the Ancestral File or the IGI, but collecting them is only part of the
process. Find the submitters and get their sources, look for changes made in
the Ancestral File, find duplicated names, check for inconsistencies in the
data, and determine if the sources include records that would establish
relationships. Just because the names are the same doesn't mean that persons
belong in the same family.
It is exciting to find many names, but to paraphrase an old statement: Slow
and steady wins the honest pedigree chart.

Subject: A-B-C's

A = All
B = Beginners
C = Copy SURNAMES in the subject field, please????

I am also a newbie, and find that some messages get overlooked when I have
a lot of them, but the ones with actual descriptions of the contents
usually get read.
I know that others filter their messages, and their computers just spit out
the ones that aren't pertaining to a definite SUBJECT.

I just wanted to give my 2 cents worth, as I am sure that a lot of these
messages that say just A-B-C or just SURNAMES, are being by-passed, (though
I have been really enjoying reading them, myself)

Good Luck to all and happy rooting!
BTW My Uncle told me to "Be careful digging up roots. You COULD open a can
of worms!" :-)

Until next time,

Subject: Help for 6th graders

I have 5 sixth grade students interested in their family tree. They are
using my FTM at school. We are connected to the internet in our room
and I was wondering if there are any sites that would be good for these
young people to look up.
They are very excited and I think I have them hooked to a life time of
fun with their early relatives.
Thanks

If you do not identify your surnames in the Subject line, many people on this
list will delete the message without reading it.

Just a suggestion, particularly if you want to connect with a new "cousin".
