The system using the term removed has been pretty well discussed.
There is also another system that does not use the the term "removed" that
certain families and sections of the country also uses.
When I run into someone that insist on knowing "our cousin" relation ship
instead of our common ancestor relationship. Such as your great grandfater
was my gggrandfather, there is at least one standardized chart that has been
published many times that I find a copy and make a copy and circle the
appropriate persons and label "you" and "me" and say that this system says
you are my "whatever" cousin. YES this is a copout but beyond double firsts,
firsts, seconds or maybe thirds who cares? I might if a large sum of money
inheritance was involved!
My $.02 worth.
