Roslin,
The Division of vital statistics of Ohio have divorce records since
Sept. of 1949. They take check or money order payable to State
Treasury. You can call 614-466-2531 for a recorded message --you can call
to verify the fee of $7.00.The message should also let you know if you
have to send a sase. The address is : Division of Vital Statistics, Ohio
Department of Health, G-20 Ohio Department Bldg. ,65 South Front Street,
Columbus, Ohio, 43266-0333. You may want to also check with the Ohio
Historical Society, Archives Library Division, 1985 Velma Ave. Columbus,
Ohio 43211-2497. Hope this helps!

Roslin,
you could check with your local health dept. and inquire as to were the
patients records were sent. You may also write to the address I gave
you in regard to divorce papers, they may be able to point you in the
right direction.

Hi Judi, For Birth, death,or marriage before 1955 you can contact the
Division of Public Records and ask how far their records go back. If
they can't help you , they maybe can point you in the right direction.
Also for birth or death ,if you knew where, you could contact the town
or city clerk where the birth or death occurred.
Now for the address: Division of Public Records, 6 Baldwin Street,
Montpelier, Vermont 05602. As far as I know the fee is $5.00. You could
always call the operator to get the tele#. and call and ask for
instructions.

Subject: Pedigree Charts to HTML
My first attempt at getting the family history onto the Internet has been a
testament to Murphy's Law. Is there a simple way to get my Ancestor Charts
into HTML to post on a web page? Something Windows-based would be nice. I
don't want to spend the amount of the national debt or invest the next five
years learning how to use the software. I just want a simple tool. I have
done my first Pedigree Chart by hand for lack of a better tool. My websight,
called "Legacy" is located at http://www.cqws.com/user1/legacy/legacy.html in
case you would like to see what I am attempting. The Pedigree Chart itself is
a follow-up page located at http://www.cqws.com/user1/legacy/ped1.htm
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cat.

Greetings,
In answer to the question re printing bookmarks from Netscape, here is
my-long-way-about-it solution. If someone has a better idea I'd like to know
too. I make a *copy* of the bookmark file.
*Do not edit the original!*
Then I open the file with a wordprocessor. I use WPWIN but any program that
can read ascii will do.
This takes forever but I just manually delete information that I don't want.
eg. The creation and modification dates and html coding.
Hope this of some help - I don't know of any other way.

I use Eudora for Mac, but it can't be too different from the PC version.
You just have to figure out the different terminology for the same things.
<G> Mailboxes and folders are not the same things. Folders hold more than
one mailbox. I started out with mailboxes for each surname which rapidly
grew unwieldy. I then put maternal surname mailboxes into one folder and
paternal ones into another. I have folders for various other main topics,
each with several mailboxes inside them. This is how I do it:
I pull down the [Window] menu and click on [Mailboxes]. I get a window
with two smaller windows in it and both have "Eudora Folder" at the top.
There are >>Move>> arrow buttons between them, but they are not active. At
the bottom of each smaller window are 3 buttons: [Rename], [New] and
[Remove]. Clicking on [New] gets me another window where I can type in the
name of the mailbox and decide to make it a folder, if I want to. If I
already have several mailboxes that I want to put together in a folder, I
choose [New], name it, and make it a folder. The new folder name will
appear in the left side window in the Mailbox window. Then I double-click
on the name of the folder. That window becomes empty but has the name of
the folder at the top. Then, in the right-hand window, I
single-click/highlight the name of the mailbox I want to put into the
folder. The arrow button <<Move<< (pointing to the left window) darkens
and becomes active. I click on that <<Move<< button, the mailbox is put
into the folder, and its name will appear in the small window under the
folder name. I continue with the rest of the mailboxes I want in the
folder. I can also make a new folder to put inside this folder, using the
same method as before, as long as this window is active. The box at the
top with the folder name in it is a pull-down menu which will get me back
to the original Eudora folder, if I want to make more folders and not have
them inside this particular folder.
The main mailbox window is where you can move your mailboxes all around and
in and out of folders. All will appear in the main mailbox pulldown menu.
Mailboxes within folders appear off to the side of a highlighted folder
name when using this menu. Mailboxes are in alphabetical order first, and
then come folders in alpha order. If you want one to be first, regardless
of alpha order, put an asterisk at the beginning of the name (*Name).
>Also could someone explain what that box next the signature box is.. the one
>that is blank and when you hit the arrow is says..high, higher, highest ...
This box is only to mark messages in order of their importance to you.
Clicking on one of the choices in a message will put a mark to the left of
the sender's name in the Table of Contents of a mailbox. (That's where you
see the sender, subject line, etc. like in your "In " box). I use this to
remind me of important messages that might get lost in the volume of email
I get. I only use them on outgoing mail to specific people (who I know
also have Eudora) to alert them to my message, if it is really important.
Sorry for the length of this. I missed the earlier explanations and hope
I've been helpful, and not redundant. Please feel free to write me
directly if anything is unclear or there are other Eudora questions.

Above this message there is File, Edit, Message, Transfer, Special, Tools,
Window, Help, EudoraPro.
Go to Tools, press enter and a window will pop up. Press the button NEW, and
then you can create the folder of your choice.
The second question I am not sure, but I think it means priority....

If you are subscribed to more than one genealogy list, you are probably
getting the same message several times because others, who are also
subscribed to more than one genealogy list, are sending their messages to
all the lists (which is okay, as far as I'm concerned--you never know for
sure which state a roving ancestor might have gone to next...)
I get a bunch of duplicates, too. It's a nuisance--my delete key has been
very warm lately (overheating, actually)!

I love Family Origins for Windows from Parsons (they have a webpage,

download a demo to try out). I've just upgraded to 5.0. I think it's
$49.00. I haven't tried any other program, so I can't compare.
It does pictures, GEDCOM transfers, PAF, searches of anything, all kinds of
reports, including custom reports, relationship calculations, error reports
("this person was born when her mother was 3 years old"--it's nice to have
this pointed out!!), and much more that I can't think of right now. Never
had to read the manual (it's a small one)--just got it going; everything is
very easy and straightforward.

The broken key means that you are using a "non-secure" version of
Netscape. There have been some good articles written about this in
non-computer magazines. The best way to describe it is that you
shouldn't transmit data such as your credit card number--someone could
"borrow it" without you knowing.

Hi All,
With all the interest that Jean Legried's kind offer has generated, I
thought this might be a good time to remind you of the online classes
coming up in Jan. given by the Carl Sandburg College Genealogy Classes.
One class is "Beginning Genealogy", which I expect is similar to the help
Jean will give us starting this Friday. However, the other class is
"Genealogy On The Internet" which I believe, according to Jean, is not
her area of expertise. Of course, unlike Jean's offer which will be free
to any of us in this Newbie group, the Sandburg class does have a cost
involved of $35.00 for their 8 wk. online course. If you would like more
information on the Sandburg class, check out:
http://csc.techcenter.org/~mneill/csc.htm
I have been in contact with the instructor of the Sandburg class and he
informed me the "homework" shouldn't take more than a couple of hours or
so each week using online databases, search engines, etc., barring
trouble if sites being accessed are busy or down.
I would expect this class would be a nice addition to our Friday's
"class" for any of us that have the access, the money and the time.

Re: FamilyTree Maker 3.0 & tracking sources.
Go to "view" on bar & drop down will show "source". Click on it and box will
show where you may type in the source of information. This is good only if
dates or places are the highlighted area. Don't know if there is way in FTW
to get a master print out of sources, but that is one way of keeping track
of where you obtained the information. When entered a small "S" will show
by the date or location on the family page. Thus you can keep track of those
that you have verified without going into the drop down.
Hope this helps. I have used FT since the 2.0 version, back in 1995 and
still learning. Now have the 3.01 version.
Always open to try new program. Anyone tried "Family Gatherings" or "Family
Orgins"? Compared to "FamilyTree Maker", how do they compare. Ease of use,
information entering, printouts, etc.

Jackie,
The bookmarks are usually stored as a text file called BOOKMARK.HTM.
If you search your harddrive using the explorer or file manager, you
should be able to find the a file called BOOKMARK.HTM ... then bring
that into a word processor to print.
Hope this helps ... good luck!

Jackie,
This means that you are viewing an unsecured Web site/page. You would
not want to send any confidential information (such as credit card
numbers) with the 'broken' key. When you access a secured site, the
key will become complete. Those sites are SUPPOSEDLY confidential.
I would still use caution in sending confidential information unless
you are familiar with the site/owner.
Hope this helps ...
