My ISP has suggested that the problem is generally due to a corrupted
message at the server's level. In my case, I now am able to go out onto the
server (password protected) and delete the message at that level. The
minute I do that the rest of my messages will download. At my previous
server, the technicians were able to see where the attempted email download
would stop, and remove the offending message from their end. Each server is
different, but all methods are worth checking.
