I don't know if the intent was to save time at the FHC in looking up
the reel you want so you could order it.
My experience with the LDS site is that it gives you information
such as event date (birth, marriage, christening), place of event and
other related information such as the batch #. In some cases it will
give you a film # or sheet # but that is usually not the case.
You still need to take the batch # you get to the FHC, go to thier
computer, look in the IGI for the additional information such as film
or fiche #, as well as printout #. Sometimes there is even other
information to be obtained from the IGI that is in the FHC.
If you look in the FHC catalog section of the website, you can get
information on what a particular film or fiche is all about.
The LDS site has given me a lot of leads in regards to people that
are related or may be related to the families I am looking up.
I have yet to see microfilm lists anywhere either on the website or
at the FHC on thier computers. I know there are lists by subject
that the FHC here has in binders so you can look through fiche to
get film #'s to order.. I've looked on the computer at the FHC and
from those sources have found film #'s and etc. to further my
search.
Another consideration is that the LDS site is still very new and they
are still putting information into the data bases. Perhaps one day
what you are talking about may be a possibility, but I don't see it
being a reality at the moment. Maybe I'm just in the dark..
