Hum,I don't know how well the numbers will work.Usually when you make one of
those print outs,which I can't remember what one,I'm new to this too...but
anywho, the generations are numbered,I think 1 is the oldest ancestor, and then
theres 2 for there children,3 for the grand-children,and so forth. It may be
more confusing than helpful.
I know on my husbands side its like everyone is John and James, then each John
and James named,if they had 2 sons, yup,John and James.
I'm starting to wonder if its a family tradition(my husband also has two
brothers named John and James)or they didn't know how to spell anything
different.I know the Irish, along with the Italians use the
traditional naming method, and it gets over bearing. For me,working with my
John O'Connell is my worst nightmare.I may as well be looking for John
Doe,Smith or Jones.I have Margaret Marys and Mary Margarets. On the Italian
side each g.grand-mother is named Maria.
Some of the Marias mothers are also Maria. My own grand-mother was
Maria...they had used the names Mary and Mamie, but those go under
nicknames. This is horrible.I have mine and my husbands trees combined for
some stupid reason.I think I have 300 people on it and 4 different
names,frustration brought to new,higher levels.Back to the numbers,maybe you
can use letters instead of numbers like
William(a) (b) (c) using the smaller case letters not to confuse your self
with the actual initials. That is if there is any chance of more confusion.
So,have I confused you even more?Well,I'm off to answer more mail,
see who else can boggle today. : )
