That's because you have set in your program to notify you, much like the
Win98 will notify/remind you to perform maintenance if you set it to do
that. Inoculate does not notify you from its website except through
newsletters. McAfee does use BackWeb or a similar "push" technology and I
believe that Norton also does, when updates are available. If you are using
Critical Updates from Microsoft, it actually reaches out every five minutes
or so (when you are connected to the internet) to check to see if MS has
updates. I don't like those programs, many do and use them. I don't
believe Inoculate uses that type of push technology for home PC users of its
product. Many people like to set in the reminder. I simply check each
evening before signing off. It is six of one and a half-dozen of the other
on how you want to do it.
