I will tell you something a friend said to me the other day: she told her
husband he should write his memoirs (I think she's writing hers) and he said
he didn't think he would because the children (4 adults) have never asked
him about his WWII experiences. Not once. His unit (or troop or whatever it
is ??) helped to liberate Dachau. He was off somewhere else, and not among
those who did it, but I can't believe his children wouldn't want to know
about it.
Ask! And ask before it's too late.
