Dear Angela:

Your question about your birth parents is a good one. This is
what I would do. Since I don't have Generations ro the
Ancestry.com program I believe that all of the programs are
basicly the same. List your parents as married and then list
yourself as of this "marriage" Next when you list their spouses
they become the primary spouse. Also make notes in your parents
files that they were not married. That is all you need to say.

Second Question.

As per your father you may be the skeleton in the closet. Does
he know you exist? If not you can still research his family. If
he knows of you perhaps you can talk with him without the present
family being there. You might be surprised what his family may
or may not know. If you know where he was born, check with the
County Clerks office and ask them if they can or are able to tell
you the names of his parents and birth places. There are ways of
getting this info it is just a bit more hard to get. Once you
have his parents names it shouldn't be too hard to research such
things as marriage licenses, death records. One thing is you do
know where he is living perhaps you can check his application for
marriage. This should list his parents names. You can also
check Census Records beginning with the 1930 Census and work
backwards every ten years. Since you know where he was born
check marriage license for tthat area. Most States have all
marriage license and death records available.

I have a question. I am using the Generations program. I also
have been using a program from Ancestor.com. May seem trivial but
being brand new at this I am having problems. My parents were
never married to each other. They married other spouses though,
and each respective parent had children with their spouses. How
do I enter this information? When I enter my parents information
the program is linking them as married. I am not sure how to even
enter their spouses. My maiden name is my mother's maiden name.
That only looks even more confusing trying to add this to the
program.
Also, I know my fathers birth date. I believe I know where
he was born. I know his full name. Right now I have been
concentrating on my mothers family since I know more. Is it going
to be possible to research my father's history when I do not know
his parents names and so forth? Also I know his address. Hard to
explain, I am the skeleton in his closet that would shock his
children, and descendents should they ever attempt genealogy. :)

Thank you for your help,
Angela
