I've found that Popup Stopper free version is great in stopping popups and yet is
very easy to over ride if needed by just holding the control key while clicking
the link again. It warns you with a brief cursor change and a sound if you
like. Its available from

in the lower left is the freebie. Its the first popup stopper that I have used
that doesn't take over the system, but keeps me in control
