Permit me if I may. I have so enjoyed these mex also My first Jobs.
They remind me of so many times and things. The College/Uni. Students in
England and Wales has just caught up with have to take on a job or 3 to pay
for the "privilege" to study! What ever their background, sometimes leaving
no time to study due to pressures of earning money to pay for fees.
I have heard the student working in pubs, local supermarkets and weekends
some sort of shop. There is a huge University not too far from me. They have
their own 'Bar' for cheap drinks, a Dillons bookshop, not discounts for
being a student! And yes there is some trouble, as with all society they
come quiet, noisy, goodtime people, and those that land up in trouble for
what ever reason. The Uni. is in a highly densely populated area & some
people do not tolerate Student unruliness. But every year the students turn
out for legal pranks, theme for fund raising for a cause.
Since devaluation, Scotland has free education for those that live there.
Bet someone pays for it somewhere.
My first job, was the last summer at school, working for the spares dept all
hand written in those days of what spares were taken out for use,
[stocktaking], and a princely wage it was too. I wasn't allowed to work
until then [something to do with under 16 yrs not allowed to work a small
amount of hours in a day and a total a week. When I left School I was an
animal attendant. Large animals.
I didn't know the different between hay & straw, learnt in a day.! I learnt
so much in that job, but parent wanted me in an Office job. More ladylike
and more pay, also more boring!! Also less mileage to cycle & less hours. I
rode motorcycles, later progressed to a beetle car which I still have, & how
I saved for that.
In my spare time always went back to the country way of life, have no
regrets.
Office Jobs paid for my hobbies. Only 2 jobs I hate, working in a sweet
shop, so boring, and an Office job later in life where the females boasted
at sacking the boss and getting rid of anyone else they could. I left after
a year. My mother told me the family were Suburban, I never considered
myself as that, Country life for me come rain or shine and to see the autumn
miss travlling across the fields was some thing to experience, cold or warm.
And my hobbies , horses, further education of different sort, including car
maintenance! photography, travel anything interesting in life's big world.
And I would do it all again. So Many happy memories. I have been told many
times not many people can say that. I'm more of a country bumpkin, than a
city sceeker! I have had Allotments hired from the local councils to grown
my own fruit and Vegs. I had never heard of de tasselling, will try that one
next year!!!!! . It doesn't seem to be done in England.'My Lawn' is used
for growing vegies
