Subject: Problem with scan disk

I have a problem with my scan disk. I tried to do a thorough scan but a I had the problem of the scan restarted over and over again. I disabled my Norton antivirus program. I ran the short scan and it worked fine. I finally finished the scan though after many restarts.
What could be the problem?
