Not related? Carl XVI Gustaf is not a direct male-line descendant of
Gustav Vasa, if that is what you mean. But they are related through
several lines! One line is like this:

Gustav I (1497-1560) -> Karl IX (1550-1611) -> Katharina (1584-1683); m.
Johann Kasimir of Zweibrücken -> Christina Magdalena (1616-1662); m.
Friedrich VI of Baden-Durlach -> Friedrich VII of Baden-Durlach
(1647-1709) -> Albertine Friederike (1682-1755); m. Christian August of
Holstein-Gottorp (1673-1726) -> Adolf Fredrik of Sweden (1710-1771) ->
Gustaf III (1746-1792) -> Gustaf IV Adolf (1778-1837) -> Sophie
(1801-1865); m. Leopold I of Baden -> Friedrich I of Baden (1826-1907)
-> Viktoria (1862-1930); m. Gustaf V of Sweden -> Gustaf Adolf
