To understand the Copenhagen censusses you must realize that the city is divided
into 12 quarters or districts, you could in some what call them jurisdictions, which
has nothing to do with the ecclesiastical districts (the parishes). So one quarter
can be divided between several parishes, and of course one parish can contain
several parts of quarters. And the censusses are following the numbering of streets
and houses in the quarters.
The list of quarters are:
Nørre
Vestre
Strand
Klædebo
Frimand
Købmager
Rosenborg
Snarens
Øster
Skt. Annæ Vester
Skt. Annæ Øster
Christianshavn
While the city had those parishes: (beg. of 19th cent.)
Vor Frue (Our Lady)
Helligånd (Holy Spirit)
Trinitatis (Trinitity)
The Palace Chapel
Holmens (congregation of mariners and people connected to the navy)
Garnison
Citadels (military congregation)
Vor Frelsers (Our Saviour)
Skt. Petri (St. Peters) german lutheran congregation
Christians Tyske (another German lutheran congregation)
Reformerte (Reformed Church)
As you can see from another answer given in this group the 1834-census is not
complete for Copenhagen, only two quarters are preserved. The last word: Hofetaten -
means the Royal court and all persons belonging working at the court - living at the
royal castles and palaces in the town. In the same way there will be special
censusses for all military persons.
The 1801-census of Copenhagen has been digitalized and put on a CD-rom, please check
