The seamen`rolls would probably obtain you some records . The seamen rolls
Stavanger1860-1900 is available at "Digitalarkivet". I think these records
just cover ships registrated in the southern part of Stavanger Amt ,known
as Rogaland Fylke these days.However I could not find any info there that
could be your gg-grandfather.

If a seaman jumped his ship, this seems to have been written in remarks
column.

You could also try some of the Regional State Archives in Bergen .
or Trondheim
.They would also tell you if
all these records are available at the Regionale State Archives.
