Bravo, Per!
I agree with you, although I have yet to publish my database.
It is better to take the wrong fork in the road than to sit by the side and go nowhere because you are not sure you are on the right path.

<<To the joy of some and chagrin and greif for others, I have
recently updated my nordic genealogy web site, on
http://home.online.no/~nermo/slekt/surnames.html
The index comprises data collected from a variety of sources,
partly genealogical litterature, partly Internet news groups,
partly other web sites, and to a very limited extent from
primary sources. (In some cases sources are given as a note).
Thus, the data quality varies. Some dubious cases are marked
with e.g. "(usikre foreldre)" (unverified parents). Data prior
to 1700 of course are more unreliable than more recent data,
and lines reaching back beyond 1600 are generally dubious and
should be treated as such.
I really appreciate the helpful assistance I've received via
different news groups and by private e-mail. I hope for continued
support, so that I will be able to supplement and further update the
contents of the web site.
Today, the database contains 21.000 individuals, to whom I myself
relate genealogically to a small fraction only. So even though
there's a lot of clergical and higher officials in the 1700th and
1800th century included, this is certainly not an attempt to
claim more noble ancestors than I in fact have. Like most
of us Norwegians I mainly descend from farmers and fishermen ...
I'm aware that some people are of the opinion that "publishing"
genealogical data of the quality described in this way is not
advisable. Well, those may of course keep their opinion, and
try to ignore this. Anyway, I hope and beleive that some people
will enjoy and extract useful information from what I've made
available, and that they'll take note of the "warning" that has
been included at the top of the index page and treat the data
accordingly. ( ... and: Yes, Harold the Fairhaired IS included !)
Enjoy !
Best regards
Per Nermo
