Subject: The Bloom Family of Schenectady and Ulster Co., NY

Barent Janzen Bloom was born in 1611 at Ockholm, Schleswig, Denmark. He
died on June 5, 1665. He married on September 15, 1641 to Styntje
Pieters, who was born about 1615 at Stockholm, Sweden.
The children of Barent and Styntje are:

Ai. Jan Barentson
Aii. Claes Nicklas
Aiii. Engletje Bloom born 12 May 1652 Schenectady, New Netherlands, died
9 Feb 1689 Schenectady NY, married in 1678 to Adam Vrooman
Aiv. Tutie.

Does anyone have any information on the first child, Jan Barentson Bloom?
I am trying to find a link between him and Emmaline Smith, who had a
Uncle Bloom and named her only child Constantine Bloom Jansen (see
below). I know nothing about her parents.

Frederick Elmendorf Jansen, born on May 1, 1808 at Marbletown,
NY, was a son of Henry Benjamin Jansen and Wyntje Elmendorf. He married
EMMALINE SMITH, born in 1810 at the town of Rochester, Ulster Co., NY
(not the city in Monroe Co.). Frederick considered moving to Fonda, NY,
near where his grandson, FRANK was building a home in 1894. Before he
could, however, he died in Ames, NY where he lived. His funeral was on
March 18, 1895 in Ames, NY.
Emmaline had a number of brothers and sisters who wrote letters
to her. From these letters Ive discovered little pieces of information.
Her oldest brother was Davis B.(?) Smith, born March 6, 1808. Davis lived
in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1824. He briefly lived in a town named Greenville
in 1828. He had moved to Litchfeild, CT by 1829. Davis home in
Greenville was only five miles from someone named Benjamin, possibly
another brother. Emmaline had a brother named Jacob who lived with a
Polly B. and Rebecca, possibly sisters. They were apparently relatives of
Benjamin G. (Smith?) and Johanna Brllolheed. Jacob had a family in 1825.
Emmaline also had a sister named Elisa T. Smith and a sister or
sister-in-law named Polly whose baby died in 1824 and whose husband died
around 1826. Emmaline had a brother who died on June 17, 1826. This may
have been Pollys husband. Jacob Smith named six individuals who he was
related with. They were: Matthew, Polly, Rebecca, Benjamin, Davis, and
Johanna. Abigail and Benjamin L. Smith wrote a letter to Frederick and
Emmaline Jansen to congratulate them on the birth of their child, C.B.,
in 1832. Someone named Perry Smith lived in West Troy in 1895. A relative
by the name of George had not yet met Davis in 1825. Other relatives
mentioned in the letters are Uncle William Smith, Uncle Bloom, Aunt
Polly, and Cousin Constantine, who died in July or August of 1827.
After giving birth to her only child, CONSTANTINE BLOOM JANSEN,
on April 23, 1832 in Otsego Co., NY, Emmaline became very ill and died
around October of 1832 at Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. Frederick's
second wife's name was either SARAH or SALLY. Her last name may have been
FARQUHARSON. Not much is known about her, but we do know that she had
three children with Frederick. She was most likely related to Anne C.
Farquharson. Sally (Sarah) apparently died a short time after she gave
birth to her youngest son Farquharson, so he married a third time, on
April 15, 1855, to DORCAS E. ROBINSON, born in 1823 in Albany Co., NY.
She had no children.

The children of Frederick E. Jansen are:

With Emmaline Smith:
1) CONSTANTINE BLOOM JANSEN, born on April 23, 1832 in Otsego Co., NY,
died August 1, 1906 in Charlton, NY
married Harriet G. Hodge

With Sarah (Sally) Farquharson(?):
2) WILLIAM, born in 1836 in Montgomery Co., listed in 1855 census as
married
3) JOHN F., born on March 10, 1840, died on Jan. 10, 1844
4)FARQUHARSON, born Jan. 20, 1850 in Otsego Co., died March 13, 1938 in
Montgomery Co., NY.

Farquharson, Fredericks youngest child, became a hardware
merchant in Fonda, NY. Farquharson changed his name to Ferguson prior to
1867. The name Ferguson is written on his tomb stone. His wife's name
was apparently Phillis. In Aug. 1930 he was a farmer living at 1414
Fourth Avenue, Seattle, WA, but moved back to Fonda shortly after. He is
buried in Evergreen Cemetery near Fonda.

CONSTANTINE BLOOM JANSEN

Constantine Bloom Jansen, the only child of Emmaline Smith, was
born on April 23, 1832 in Otsego Co., NY, and died on August 1, 1906 at
Charlton, NY. He married HARRIET G. HODGE, possibly on Dec. 15, 1855.
Harriet, a daughter of ISAAC G. HODGE and MELISSA HILL , was born on
April 22, 1832, and died on Feb. 11, 1876. Harriet had six sisters and
four brothers. Their names, as best as I can figure out, are R. Anna,
Sarah, Millie, Mentie, Elsie, Ellen P., Benjamin, Charles A., William,
and Squire H. G. Hodge (who lived at Ames, NY on May 21, 1853). Harriet
was also probably a relative of Louise Hodge.
In a old letter dated after Harriet's death, Constantine was
apparently married to a woman who wrote her name as F. B. Jansen, and had
family in Boston, MA. Constantine and Harriet had at least two children.

If anyone has any additional information on anything mentioned above
please contact me. Thank you.
