I don't have the time this morning to go into the details, but Philipse
Manor was one of the grants that lined the Hudson River in the late 17th
and 18th century. It lay entirely within what is now Westchester County.
The name is preserved in a small neigborhood that lies on the banks of
the Hudson just north of Tarrytown today. There is also a widespot in the
road in Orange County called Phillipsburg in the Town of Wallkill and
just east of the City of Middletown. What the historical connection, if
any, between the two places is unknown to me.
