Subject: Spoke to a person at Social Security Administration
Date: Fri, 6 Nov 1998 16:36:50 EST

Hi NY List--as I promised a few days ago, I spoke to a person at the Social
Security Administration--someone that answers questions on an 800#--and she
said to go ahead and continue sending requests for photocopies of deceased
person's social security applications (form SS-5) to the Baltimore address,
which is: Social Security Administration, Office of Central Records
Operations, FOIA Workgroup, PO Box 17772, 300 N. Greene Street, Baltimore, MD
21290. Be sure to mention "Freedom of Information Act Request" in the letter.
The $7.00 quoted in Ancestry.com's sample letter is enough to send. I told her
that I had received my copies in 7 weeks and she said she thought it would
take longer than that! I hope this helps and doesn't tie up the list too
much! Have a wonderful weekend, Marilyn
