Hi, everybody.

I am new to the list and am interested in any further information that anyone can provide relating to the Charles Mais involved with the two books below about Rachel Baker of Marcellus, New York State, or in any advice on how I might be able to find out more.

I have seen copies of both books, but the only information that they give is that Charles Mais was a stenographer from New York city. Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.
a.. "The Surprising Case of Rachel Baker, Who Prays and Preaches in her Sleep" by Charles Mais, printed by S Marks, 63 Anthony Street, New York, 1814. Second edition by Whiting & Watson of New York, 1814.
a.. "Devotional Somnium: Or a Collection of Prayers and Exhortations Uttered by Miss Rachel Baker during her Abstracted and Unconscious State, to which is prefixed an Account of her Life" by Charles Mais and J H Douglass printed by E Cox & Son of London, 1815. Second edition entitled "Remarkable Sermons of Rachel Baker and Pious Ejaculations, Delivered during Sleep" printed in 1816 by Tenny & Miller, Sangerfield, New York. .
Many thanks in advance.
